Our 1st trip to Europe (Switzerland/France)

First and for most, I feel very blessed and thankful that I got the opportunity to visit Europe. Mat was going to Switzerland for work and so it was a great opportunity to extend his trip and turn it into a vacation for the 2 of us. Janet (Mat's mom) agreed to come down and watch the kids while we were gone. I can't thank her enough!!!! From what I hear, the kids had some great bonding time and Ma survived being a taxi driver, mom, teacher, maid, chef, and buddy to play with ;-)

Mat flew over and was there about a week and then I flew over. We kept having to pinch ourselves wondering if we were actually in Europe as a couple. It was by far the best trip ever and we had a blast! We laughed A LOT, lived A LOT, played A LOT, learned A LOT and loved A LOT! Life is such a whirlwind at times and it's hard not to get stuck in the day to day commitments that pull you in every direction. The trip helped open our eyes to the love and respect we have for one another and that even though we can't be in lala land traveling the world, we know that what matters most is our relationship and stepping back gave us the chance to rekindle it.

It was also great to get another perspective. Our favorite spots were Yvoire, Gruyere, Interlaken, and Chamonix. We very much enjoyed the countryside where life and people move very slow. It is common to take 2 hours to eat lunch or dinner and the waiter/waitress will not bring you the bill, you must ask for it.

We have to admit, we did get homesick at the end of our trip. We missed our kids and couldn't wait to see them. Plus, it felt good being in our own bed with our familiar surroundings. As the sang goes, "Home is where the heart is."

Enjoy our scrapbook of events...I hope we don't bore you too much. We tried to just pull out the highlights.

xoxo-Mat and Nik
